Once a Little Brother
School started up again last week for C. For kids in pre-K, this is a time of lots of adjustments. New friends, new teachers, less free time… all that fun stuff. After work on Monday, I both wanted to hear how his first day went, and wanted to get some playtime in with him. I figured he could use some familiar silliness after all the new stuff.
I bounded into the den, with all sorts of fun ideas. He was lying on the couch. “Hi, dad.”
Hey, big guy! How was school?
“Fine.”
Fine? Fine! We can do better than that! Poke! Poke!
“Stop, dad! Stop!”
C’mon. Let’s do something! How about a game?
“Oh… Okay. Let’s play Hide and Go Boo. You hide”
“Hide and Go Boo” is a game from the Backyardigans. It’s like hide and seek, but when the seeker gets close to the hider, the hider jumps out and tries to scare him. It’s actually pretty cool. I ran off to hide in the dining room.
I was there for about five minutes before I realized the little guy had never left the couch.
Sheesh.
If you ever find out how to get a little to say what he did in school, besides, “Fine” or “Stuff” PLEASE let me know!!!
You just needed to kick the can! Swear!
