Should it be

As I may have mentioned before, I’ve had to get a little creative with my lullabies. Not having any experience with kids prior to my own, I didn’t know any of the traditional ones. I ended up stealing tunes from my own memory – things like “Let it Be” and the Spiderman theme song. They went over extremely well, if I do say so myself.

The other day, the kids decided it was time for me to take a nap. I’m not exactly why they decided this, but they guided me to the couch and had me lay down. C (the five year old) ran to grab me some blankets, while his little brother gathered up tons of stuffed animals and stacked them on me.

Once I was sufficiently buried, they started singing me lullabies. C launched into a long rambling tune about butterflies and clouds and dragons and whatnot. It was very creative. Once he finished, he ran off, leaving his little brother to finish the job.

N kneeled down next to the couch so his mouth was close to my ear.
Then he sang in the quietest voice you can imagine:

When I find myself in times of trouble,
Mother Mary comes to me,
Whisper words of wisdom.
Should it be, should it be.
Should it be, should it be?
Oh should it be, yeah, should it be?
 Whisper words of wisdom:
should it be, should it be.

I know, I know. Those lyrics aren’t exactly right. But hey, he’s only three. Just let it be.

Besides, I think I like his lyrics better.
