Sunday School is over now, but before it ended, I received this bizarre report from N (our three year old), regarding what he had learned that day…

I started the conversation over a lunch of hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. The little guy seemed depressed, and I was trying to figure out why. “How was Sunday School, big guy? Did anything interesting happen?”

He sighed. “We learned about this guy who went to heaven”

“You mean Jesus?”

“No.”

That puzzled me. “Not Jesus – just some guy?”

“Yeah, just a guy. He didn’t come back.”

This was starting to sound like a depressing lesson. “What was his name?”

“I don’t know. He was just a guy.”

“So in Sunday School they told you about some guy who went to heaven and didn’t come back?”

He shrugged, poking at his hot dog. “Yeah, just a guy who went to heaven”

Hmm… No wonder he was depressed.
