Second Thoughts
At dinner the other day, my youngest announced that he wanted to play a game of “what I’m going to be when I grow up.”
“I’m gonna be a builder,” his older brother said. “And build amusement parks!”
I nodded. “That’d be cool.”
“I want to be a daddy,” the little guy said, “well… maybe.”
“Maybe?” I asked.
“Some kids,” he said very seriously. “Not us, of course, but some kids can be hard to take care of. Not us, though.”
“True,” I said.
“Yeah,” his older brother said, “and you have to ask your wife. If she doesn’t want to have kids, you can’t have kids.” He gestured with his hands. “That’s the way it is.”
