Two unrelated plot lines came together this past week, and it felt so good I just had to share.

The first is that I’m forcing my oldest son to read Dune. I know, I know. I’m a horrible tyrant of a dad, but let’s face it, Dune should be required reading for all teenagers.

The second is that I picked up The Sting in the bargain bin at Target the other day. The boys and I watched it last Tuesday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Movie-wise, it’s tough to beat watching Redford and Newman doing their thing.

The next day, my oldest son texted me: “The Fremen: Paul Newman’s favorite people.”

A single text encompassing references to both Dune and The Sting? Perfect.
