“Daddy,” my oldest said last night as he was crawling into bed. “I think Jackie Chan got it wrong. That’s not really El Chupacabra.”

Earlier, we had watched an episode of Jackie Chan (the cartoon) that featured el chupacabra as its bad guy.

“Really?” I said. “I don’t know that much about it.”

He nodded seriously. “I’m pretty sure. I mean I’ve seen a lot of things about El Chupacabra, and they all were different than what was in Jackie Chan.”

“You’ve seen other things about El Chupacabra?” I asked.

“Yeah, and Jackie Chan got it wrong. It’s more like Big Foot.”

“Hm,” I said. “Where have you seen El Chupacabra?”

“Well,” he said. “Scooby Doo.”

Somehow, I managed to keep a straight face. “Oh, well then. That must be right.”

He smiled self-consciously and then started giggling.
