Outed
My oldest had a cub scout gathering not too long ago. This one was at a friend’s house, and story-themed. They had a big fire in a firepit, and all the boys got up to tell a tall tale. It was a pretty big crowd, with the boys and their families all sitting in chairs around the fire.
When each boy’s turn came to tell a story, he stood up in front of the fire in front of the whole crowd.
My wife and I snuggled up on a bench to watch. The night wore on, and the boys told their stories. All-in-all, a very relaxing time.
Toward the end, one of the boys started telling the story of Rip Van Wynkle: “he went up into the hills and took a nap for twenty years.”
“A twenty year nap?” my oldest interrupted. He jumped to his feet and turned to the crowd. “My dad would love that!”
He pointed at me, just in case anyone wasn’t clear who I was, then burst out laughing.
Thanks, kiddo.
For what it’s worth, though, I do enjoy naps, especially ones like this.
