The Easter Egg

Our Easter tradition is a little different from most. We hide our Easter eggs Saturday night. During the night, the Easter bunny finds our Easter eggs and hides eggs filled with candy. Usually, the kids wake us up Sunday morning, and we go do the searching.

This Easter, however, they didn’t wake us up until after they’d found all the eggs.

“What?” I grumbled. “What about us? I like to search for Easter Eggs too.”

I wasn’t serious, though. I couldn’t blame them. Why waste time waking up parents when you can just have the Easter egg hunt yourself?

We munched some Easter candy, and I went to take my shower.

When I returned, all dressed and ready for church, my youngest son intercepted me. “I think the Easter bunny might have left you an egg,” he said.

“Really?”

He nodded seriously. “I’m pretty sure. I spotted one that wasn’t where our eggs were hidden.”

“Can you do hot and cold for me?”

With their help, I searched the house until I found the hidden egg. I opened it up to discover a mix of M&Ms and Skittles.

That night, as I tucked the big guy into bed, I whispered a question to him. “Can you tell me a secret?” I asked. “Did you make that egg for me?”

He smiled and nodded.

“Thanks,” I whispered.

“Happy Easter, Daddy.”

“Happy Easter, kiddo.”
