Important Business
The past few mornings have been surprisingly cold. I’m not complaining, mind you. I understand that Florida cold doesn’t compare to the rest of the country. Even so, it’s been cold, cold enough to stop us from riding our bikes into school, cold enough to make our morning basketball a bit of a challenge.
The other day, the boys went out before me. I dug out my jacket, knocked the wrinkles out of it, and started to put it on.
“Dad,” my oldest said, sticking his head back inside the house. “What are you doing?”
“Um.” I looked around. I hadn’t realized just how long I’d spent putting my jacket on. “Tending to some business.”
“What business?”
“Important business!” I said. “Important grown-up business.”
“Da-ad. Come on! It’s not that cold out.”
Sigh.
I could have been tending to important business. How did he know? I have important business to tend to sometimes…
