Tired of Summer

As we were driving back from the airport yesterday, my youngest son told me how hard his life had become.

“We’re going to have to leave the house by 7 tomorrow morning,” he groaned. “Seven!”

“You’re complaining about Marine Discovery Camp?” It’s a day camp we discovered where the kids get to kayak and snorkel and explore the intracoastal waterway.

“No,” he said. “But leaving at seven in the morning means we have to get up at, like 6:30!”

It’s worth mentioning that prior to this summer, both the boys were up every morning around 6. It drove us crazy. This summer, though, they’ve been playing hard and fighting to stay up late (click here for details).

“Well,” I said. “Just think of it like school, when we have to leave the house by, um, eight.”

“Exactly!” he said.

“Bet you can’t wait until school starts,” I said with a grin. “Then you can sleep in.”

That got me a glare. Not just any glare, either, but a full-face, eyes squinting, “stop talking now” sort of thing.
