All Full

We’ve been having a heck of a time getting our two year old to eat. He’s about as stubborn as it gets when it comes to food. It’s not that he doesn’t like to eat, it’s that he wants to do it on his own terms.

Unfortunately, this means he just wants to eat junk food.

The other night, he was trying to use the “I’m full” gambit. He took a tiny little nibble of his chicken and then said “I full. I can’t eat anymore. I full.”

Feeling inspired, I said “let me check.” I looked at his belly, poking here and there while he giggled.

Finally I said “There’s a spot! There’s still some room left! Right there.”

He looked down at his belly to where I was pointing. Then he looked at me. “Hey! You’re right!”

He took a bite of chicken, chewed it down, and then poked that part of his belly.

“It’s full now, daddy. I all full!”

Now I was stumped. I couldn’t claim he wasn’t full, because I’d just inspected him and found the only empty spot. I suppose I could have said that spot wasn’t full yet, but that seemed lame. Fortunately, I had an easy out.

I looked at his momma. “Your turn.”
