What’s That Smell?
The kids have off from school again today, thanks to tropical storm Fay. They just started school on Monday, and having the days off after all the build-up about going to school has made our mornings kind of crazy.
This morning, my youngest walked quietly up beside me as I was making my way to the kitchen. He slipped his little hand inside mine to stop me. “Daddy?” he asked.
I stopped and tried to swallow my yawn. “Yes?”
“Do you smell that?”
Uh-oh, I thought. What’s happened now? Did the dogs have an accident? Did one of the kids? “What?” I asked.
“That!” He pulled his hand out of mine so he could gesture broadly with both of his little arms. “That!”
I sniffed, cautiously at first and then with more determination. Nothing really stood out, other than my morning breath, and I was pretty sure he hadn’t smelled that yet. “No, no I don’t think so. What do you smell?”
“It smells like Disney, doesn’t it? I think it does. What do you think?”
I ruffled his hair. “I wish, big guy. I wish, but I’ve got to work today and there’s a tropical storm outside.”
I have to hand it to him. It was a really good try. Now if only I could get that Disney smell out of my nose so I could concentrate!
