Shop, Momma, Shop!

This past weekend, we went down to a craft festival in Lake Eola park in downtown Orlando. It was a huge festival, with booths on both sides of the mile-long trail that goes around the lake.

That’s a lot of crafts.

At one point, the boys and I were pretty much worn out, and J wanted to look at dresses in one of the booths. Why they had dresses at a craft fair, I just don’t know. In any case, this particular shop didn’t have anything across from it, so the boys and I sat down on the curb facing the shop.

After a fairly short while of watching the knees of the crowd walking by, we got pretty bored – so we started clapping.

This got us some looks, but other than that didn’t really fill the time very well.

So I started to chant "Buy, momma, buy!"

The boys joined in right away (thank goodness). Actually, C changed the chant to "Shop, Momma, Shop", which was better because N was starting to think we were saying "bye, momma, bye".

In any case, after a few alterations we ended up sitting on the curb clapping our hands and singing/shouting "Shop, Momma, Shop!"

Soon the passing knees were stopping, and their attendant heads were looking down at us – and then craning to see where "momma" was. There were people laughing and pointing into the dress shop, and other people leaving the dress shop while ducking their heads. Why they would be embarrassed, I don’t know.

Momma, meanwhile, was loudly declaring that "Yes, she would do just that!" and "in fact, I’m going to buy another dress!" (which she did)

This elicited a few chuckles from the crowd, and even a few cheers.

Finally she emerged with two dresses, and the people dispersed back to their regularly scheduled craft fair.

All in all, a good time was had by all.

Though I think the buying of the extra dress was, perhaps, not called for.
