Talking Trouble

The other night,as we were waiting for my five-year old to finish in the bathroom, his older brother took my hand.

“So Dad,” he asked seriously. “Why doesn’t he ever want to go to the bathroom? Why is it always a battle?”

I looked at him. “What do you mean?” I asked. “It’s never a battle. He goes the bathroom all the time.”

“Huh,” he said, considering. “But why does he whine so much? It’s not good to whine, is it?”

“No,” I said. “It’s definitely not good to whine.”

“Huh,” he said, looking disappointed.

I think he was trying to get his brother in trouble, but just didn’t know how.
