An Ode to Teaching

“Adjective?” my oldest asked. “How about swiftly?”

We were at Olive Garden, doing a Mad-Lib they had on the kid menus.

“Wait,” he said. “That’s an adverb not an adjective.”

“That’s fantastic,” I said. He’s only in second grade. I hadn’t realized they’d learned about adverbs yet. “I’m impressed you know the difference.”

“Yeah,” he said with a shrug. “They teached it to me.”
