Progression

After a month or so of talking about it, we’re finally moving our youngest (who is now 7) to his own room. Both boys are really excited about having their own rooms. Last week, we brought up the issue of painting the new room.

“So, what color would you like to paint it?” my wife asked.

“Hmm,” the little guy said. “How about two colors?” he asked

My wife and I looked at each other. We were standing in the room in question. Two colors didn’t seem too bad. “Okay,” she said.

He grinned. “Blue and green, no red! Blue, green and red.”

“What happened to two colors?” I asked.

“Half of this wall red,” he pointed to the middle of the wall. “And the other half blue.”

“No stripes,” my wife said. “They never come out straight.”

“Okay,” he said. “Then this wall red, and that wall blue, and that wall green.”

“Three colors?” I asked again.

“And that wall yellow,” he finished.

“That’s a lot of colors,” I said. By now, I’m not really sure why I was even speaking.

“Are you sure you want each wall a different color?” my wife asked.

“Yep,” he said, pointing to the walls, “red, blue, yellow, and green.”

From one color to four in three quick unstoppable steps. Some day, I’ve got to learn how to do that.
