What a wonderful world

I see trees of green, red roses too.
I see ’em bloom, for me and you
And I think to myself…

On our bike ride into school the other day, my oldest started singing What a Wonderful World, doing his best imitation of Louis Armstrong.

I see skies of blue, and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, dark sacred night
And I think to myself…

He did a report on Louis Armstrong a while ago. As part of that, I showed him some online videos of Louis Armstrong singing. He’s been hooked ever since.

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces, of people going by
I see friends shaking hands, sayin’, “How do you do?”
They’re really sayin’, “I love you”

Needless to say, it wasn’t long before all three of us were belting out the song as we pedalled. People smiled and waved as we rode by, and I’m fairly certain that more than one of them started singing along. We went through the song one whole time, then started over.

I see bunnies hopping, brown doggies too,
I see ’em play, for me and you,
and I think to myself…

Wait. What? That’s not how it goes. There was no stopping the song, though. We had another impromptu verse, and then I brought us back.

I hear babies cryin’, I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more, than I’ll ever know
And I think to myself…

By now, we were gliding to a stop at the crosswalk that led to school. The crossing guard looked at us like we’d gone crazy. I suppose we had, just a little, but it was a good kind of crazy.

Yes, I think to myself,
What a wonderful world!

Indeed.
